A guide for the CAD industry...
CADworld

  Joke Time

A physician, a civil engineer, and a consultant were arguing about what was the oldest profession in the world.

The physician remarked, "Well, in the Bible, it says that God created Eve from a rib taken out of Adam.  This clearly required surgery, and so I can rightly claim that mine is the oldest profession in the world."

The civil engineer interrupted and said, "But even earlier in the book of Genesis, it states that God created the order of the heavens and the earth from out of the chaos.  This was the first and certainly the most spectacular application of civil engineering.  Therefore, fair doctor, you are wrong; mine is the oldest profession in the world."

The consultant leaned back in her chair, smiled, and then said confidently, "Ah, but who do you think created the chaos?"

 Summer is sizzlin'!

Summer is upon us and it is hot!!!  Looks like everyone is getting busy again.  This was our best spring ever!  THANK YOU ... let the good times roll.

We have made some changes here as well.  Ken Wilson has agreed to be our Service Manager & Operations Manager.  Call him anytime because he never goes home.

As most of you know, half of the firms in Austin have the good sense to buy supplies from us and we are working on the other half.  Randy Shannon has joined us to expand our borders past Austin.  He will introduce us into Corpus Christi, Waco, College Station, and San Antonio among others.

Mike Adams has assumed the mantle of our graphics "go to" guy.  Mike has an extensive background in the industry.  He owned his own Internet print for pay shop.  I am happy to have someone who not only knows ICC Profiles, but is also willing to use them!

Our biggest news is the addition of our equipment division.  Historically I would rather stick a sharp stick in my eye than sell plotters.  Ken Wilson sweet-talked me not only into selling plotters, but hiring Anthony Rapps to do it for me full time.  Smart thinking.  I expect to have a major partnership announcement soon!

As you can see, we continue to expand thanks to the strong and loyal support we receive from you ... thanks again!

  Summer Special

Rarely do we advertise in our own newsletter, but hey, we need to get Anthony in the equipment division started with a bang!!!  For the month of June, we will deliver and install any HP Designjet plotter for FREE.  Only two rules: buy it from us (Anthony) and sign up for a service agreement.

Why buy from us when you can order direct from HP?  Well hopefully you know and like us!  But if that isn't enough, we service the plotters ourselves.  Our service guys work almost exclusively with the big plotters.  Nobody in town (including HP) is as good as our guys, Chris & Ken.  Our Deluxe Service Contracts give the best value in town.  We provide 4-hour response standard, superior technicians, annual preventative maintenance, and a line conditioner.  Our plotters deliver within a couple of days.

We can match HP's online prices while still taking advantage of HP's special offers and rebates.  We can even help find plotters for their current trade-in program.  So let's keep those dollars in Austin!

What ever happened to Sepia Vellum?

I have no idea, but it is gone -- wiped of the face of this earth.  I had a client call up a month ago asking for the sepia vellum.  She indicated her current source couldn't get it and asked if I would help her out.  Well you know me, yes ma'am we'll get right on it.

Turns out none of my sources carry sepia vellum either!  We still stock blueline paper and can get sepia mylar, ammonia, etc.  It's just been a while since anyone asked for sepia vellum.  So what gives?

Well there seem to be two camps of thought.  My favorite is the Oliver Stone theory.  Apparently, the Federal Government issued new regulations regarding the manufacturing of sepia vellum, primarily the special coating.  This rendered the current process obsolete.  Unfortunately, the new method works so poorly that nobody can get sepia vellum to work.  NOBODY!

Personally, I don't believe anyone buys sepia vellum anymore.  Since manufacturers do try to turn a profit, they need someone to sell to.  No buyers = no sellers.  Of course, it's always more fun to blame the government.  Either way it's gone and I dare say we didn't even miss it.

P.S.  Along the same note, we are almost completely out of plotter pens.  All other sources are drying up as well (no pun intended).  If you are trying to keep a pen plotter running, you'd better stock up on pens fast!
