  Seiko LP 1010

Introducing the 5th generation of Seiko-I Infotech LED wide-format printers, the new family of Teriostar™s take high-quality printing to the next level.  These precision engineered monochrome printers come in two state-of-the-art models.  One is a network printer model, the LP-1010, and the other, a multi-function scanner/copier/printer model, the LP-1010MF.  Additionally, both models feature a small footprint allowing users the added convenience of a front-side feed system and ejection all in one small space.  Moreover, the Teriostar family encompasses the ‘first ever’ user-replaceable process cartridge, (photo-processing unit, lens & charge wire).  With this newly developed Seiko-I Infotech technology, end-users can now replace their process cartridge just like in a desktop laser printer without the expense of a service call.

Printer Simplicity and Increased Productivity
The compact and sleek 36” LP 1010 monochrome printer introduces new simplicity in features and functionality.  First, the toner system uses a containment system that prevents accidental toner spills.  Secondly, the printer automatically selects the appropriate paper size for your drawing.  Thirdly, the LP 1010 has an easy-to-replace process cartridge which eliminates 90% of the downtime.  The LP 1010 printer outputs over 6 D size drawings.  The high performance controller with simultaneous parallel data processing provides high quality output, even during continuous printing of different sizes.

Multiple Interfaces and Output File Formats
The Seiko LP 1010 digital wide format printer produces clear, crisp lines.  The combination of 600 dpi and a single developer unit delivers superb density and excellent line acuity.  Accurate copies and prints-to-scale are assured with true 600 dpi printing.  The multiple interfaces supported with the LP 1010 digital wide format printer include Ethernet (100Base-TX and 10Base-T), USB2, and Centronics.  All interfaces can receive data simultaneously. The output file formats supported include HP-GL, HP, GL/2, HP-RTL, TIFF, and CALS.  The LP 1010 digital printer also includes a Windows driver that allows you to print from any application.

Scan to Print
The 600 dpi scanner reproduces drawing accurately.  The scanner handles halftones and thin lines equally well.  The scan to file software has the ability to automatically send jobs to 6 different file locations.  The onboard 20 gig hard drive can stores jobs in the queue.  The best feature is the ability to scan documents directly into the PDF format.

  • Super fast, low cost, CAD graphics printing
  • Outputs over 1620 sf/hr monochrome (6.2 D’s per minute in copy mode)
  • Accurate copies and prints-to-scale are assured with true 600 dpi printing
  • Uses toner cartridge containment system that prevents accidental toner spills
  • User replaceable process cartridge eliminates 90% of downtime
  • Scan to file in either tiff or PDF format
  • Small footprint
  • Includes Windows driver that allows you to print from any application
  • Supports Ethernet*, USB2, and Centronics

Summer Vacation - Free at Last!

Okay, so the spring has flown by and here comes summer.  In theory, everything slows down because half the world goes on vacation.  I am proud to say my family and I will be going on our first real vacation since my boy (age 7) was born.  OUCH!!!  I just believe the poor saps left behind dump their extra work on all of the undefended desks.

The Seiko is doing very well.  We placed twice as many machines as expected during our introductory month.  We have put together another package deal for just the Seiko plotter unit.  The plotter screams at 6 D’s per minute (Seiko Specs PDF 1.7MB).  The package brings the speed and convenience of an in-house repro shop at the cost many appreciate.

Another milestone has come -- 10 years ago I started out as just a paper guy.  I have now hired a full time software specialist, Laryza Morales.  She has already helped us out with the software installation and training on the Seikos.  She has also been a real boon on the color profiling and scanning projects.  We are eager to have her help, but wow, how times have changed.

Bill Milburn has become the latest Texas Grad to join the team.  Doug handles all of Austin and Bill is taking care of everyone else -- hard to tell who got first pick huh!?  Bill is going to do good work here so please be kind and help both of my newest people on board.

Hopefully I can write the next letter from the sunny beaches -- not.  Enjoy your summer.

My name is Bill Milburn.  It's June 2006 and I can hardly believe that I am working at CAD Supplies.  My grandfather, who was a newspaper owner, a publisher, and a printer, was responsible for my initial interest in media.  After graduating from UT with a degree in Radio Television & Film, I spent many years in broadcasting, production and sales, and forays into sales in the hi-tech industry.  I now find myself working in an area that my grandfather would have been at home.

I feel at home here, too.  The professionals here at CAD Supplies have welcomed me with open arms and have been extremely helpful showing me the ropes.  I feel very fortunate to be working with such a great group of individuals and look forward to working with our many valued customers.  As I showed my wife and daughter my new office here at CAD Supplies the other weekend, they were amazed at the quality and variety of pictures that had been printed and are hanging in our offices.

Later, as I reflected on our walk through the offices and warehouse, I thought about the rolls of blank paper filling the warehouse.  I was both thrilled and intrigued to imagine how the paper would be used and what might be printed on it.  I realized that I was involved with a company that I could really believe in.  The quality of our product is such that I can sell it without reservation.  I anticipate great things for our customers because I know I am selling them a product I am proud of and can stand behind.  I look forward to speaking with you and working with you in the coming months.

What is Color Management?

Could you imagine a world without color?  It most certainly would be a dull and boring one.  Fortunately, we live in a world where color brings what we see to life.  Colors have all kinds of uses, when we want something to stand out and attract the eye, graphic designers and artists choose red.  Blue is a color usually used to calm the soul, like the feeling you get when you are near water or look into the sky.  Color changes the world we live in.

Have you ever had a client come into your business for a digital print job and the colors on the monitor appear to be different to the client, and prints all the wrong colors?  I recently came across an article that explains color management in great detail and thought our clients would benefit from this University of Texas article.

The University of Texas at Austin - Digitization Center – April 2004

"Standardization of the color within the image workflow is likely to be the biggest challenge for the quality assurance system.  It is now considered best practice to establish a color management system (CMS) based upon the International Color Consortium (ICC) color management model."

A color management system is a system of hardware and software products that ensure accurate color reproduction across all the devices in use.  Hardware components are monitors, scanners, digital cameras and printers.  Software components are: device color profiles – descriptors of how a specific device reproduces color, applications that are used to create these profiles (likeMonacoEZcolor), and image editing applications that use profiles (like Photoshop).

Each device in the workflow reproduces color differently.  Scanners, monitors, and printers use different color spaces.  Most scanners and monitors are RGB devices, or use RGB color spaces, while output devices can be RGB or CMYK devices.  Further, some devices within the same family are able to reproduce a wider gamut of color than others.  The important thing to remember is that similar devices differing their ability to reproduce color accurately.

Color management systems (CMS) were developed to compensate for the variability in the way devices reproduce color.  The main software components in a CMSare the device profiles and a color management module (CMM).

Device profiles are software modules that provide a description of each device’s color gamut (the total range of reproducible color).  The CMM is a software module that acts as a central interpreter between the color gamut values of the different devices.  The color gamut for each device is stored in the corresponding file.  The CMM compares them and makes the necessary adjustments to ensure color is interpreted accurately across all devices in the workflow.  The result is an accurate translation from one device to the next, giving the consistent predictable color.

A complete color management system consists of:

CS2 recognizes the problems our clients have with color management and have put in play a program to help our clients overcome the headaches.  We want to insure that our clients produce consistent color prints with the medias we provide to you.  CS2 announces the Color Management Program for our clients who are currently buying graphics media from us.  This free service will save you time and money.  It will save lots of graphic design time adjusting colors, costly reprints due to wrong colors, and you will use less ink.  We have had an overwhelming response to this new program so please call and set an appointment to have your design center profiled.

  • Devices (such as monitor, scanner, digital camera or printer)
  • Device profiles (a description of each device’s ability to reproduce color) and a CMM (Color Management Module) that uses these profiles
  • Software to create device profiles (like Monoco EZ color)
  • Software to apply device profiles (like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop)
